Yudhra: A Promising Action Thriller with a Twist

Siddhant Chaturvedi in action as Yudhra, showcasing intense fight scenes.

Siddhant Chaturvedi shines in his role as Yudhra, a hotheaded character grappling with daddy issues and a peculiar affection for lizards. Channeling his inner MC Sher, Siddhant convincingly portrays an angry young man who, despite his innocent appearance, is fiercely determined and ready to fight. His character's mercurial nature makes for an engaging watch, even if he doesn't appear overtly menacing.

Yudhra faces off against formidable foes, including drug lord Firoz (Raj Arjun) and his son Shafiq (Raghav Juyal). While Firoz's portrayal leans into theatricality, Raghav emerges as a compelling antagonist, showcasing his talent as a dancer-turned-actor. Ram Kapoor adds depth as a suspicious cop, while Gajraj Rao plays Yudhra's father. The film's cutting-edge action sequences are its strongest asset, with standout moments like the music store scene and an adrenaline-pumping bicycle parkour sequence, expertly choreographed by action director Nick Powell, known for his work on Gladiator.

Despite its technical prowess and intriguing world-building, Yudhra struggles with emotional depth. The film initially builds anticipation but ultimately falls short in its second half, missing the opportunity for a compelling climax. Director Ravi Udyawar's use of action as a narrative device is impressive, yet the story often meanders, lacking the emotional stakes that could elevate it. Although Siddhant and Malavika share great screen presence, their chemistry doesn’t quite resonate. As Bollywood embraces high-octane action, Yudhra showcases promise but reminds us that action films can benefit from a deeper emotional core.
